Most Austin homeowners pay $1,800 to $3,200 to upgrade from a 100-amp to a 200-amp panel. The price depends on three things: the size of the new panel, whether the meter base has to move, and how much work Austin Energy has to do on their side.
Typical prices
- Same-size panel replacement: $1,400 to $2,000
- 100A to 200A upgrade: $1,800 to $3,200
- Upgrade that also moves the meter: $3,000 to $4,500
What raises the price
- Moving the panel to a new wall
- Old aluminum branch wiring that needs repair
- A new service line from the pole
- Adding surge protection or a subpanel at the same time
Do you need an upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. A load calculation often shows that a 100-amp panel can take a 40-amp charger circuit, especially in homes with gas heat. We run the calculation before we quote an upgrade.
